The Martian Farming blog provides occasional updates on the efforts of the Synthesis© team, a collective of researchers focused on learning skills and doing experiments which will make our team highly employable in future human colonies in space, which are today quickly becoming more fact than fiction. We have successfully grown a number of terrestrial plants in Martian regolith simulant, as well turned the simulant into a viable, well-draining agricultural substrate. Experiments with terrestrial moss species and Martian regolith simulant are in their third phase, and experiments with producing Mushrooms in Martian regolith simulant are in the preliminary phase. Beginning in early 2017 we will begin experimentation with other kinds of regolith and simulant, including Lunar and asteroidal types.
